Building Science

Utilizing building science + the best materials, practices, and craftsmen to assemble technologically advanced structures.

FOUNDATION

We design and implement the latest building science technologies into the foundation of our homes. This is one of the most critical areas to get right, and we only have one shot at it.

Key items where we use building science to differentiate ourselves:
  • Soil boring and testing

  • Underslab insulation & vapor barrier

  • Rebar spec and layout

  • Footer / wall capillary break

  • Concrete strength and mix characteristics

  • 3rd party concrete testing

  • Drying / setting times for foundation walls

FRAMING

After your foundation, this is the second most critical area of the construction process. We are not looking to simply meet basic code requirements, we are engineering the structure for the long haul and for potential future needs.

Key items where we use building science to differentiate ourselves:
  • Wall sheathing

  • Roof sheathing / radiant barrier

  • Premium subfloors

  • Advanced framing methods

  • Insulation maximization through specific framing techniques

  • Floor truss systems

  • Roof truss engineering and loading for future

  • Moisture testing of all lumber prior to insulation / drywall

  • Proper storage of lumber

WATER PROTECTION

The killer of any house or structure is poor water management. You can build something well up front, but if the water movement is not controlled, that structure will last a short time. We obsess over the details when it comes to keeping water outside where it belongs.

Key items where we use building science to differentiate ourselves:
  • Synthetic roofing underlayment’s

  • Strictly adhering to Tyveks exact installation standards

  • Proper taping of windows, doors, exterior penetrations

  • Latest flashing methods

  • Proper use of rain screen and other siding water movement systems

  • Fastener options used for attachment

  • Foundation waterproofing methods

MATERIALS

Proper materials used in a project make all of the difference. When specified properly and implemented the right way, they can be the difference maker that all of the other building science systems rely on.

Key items where we use building science to differentiate ourselves:
  • Windows

  • Doors

  • Overheads

  • Roofing materials

  • Venting boots & products

  • and more!

INSULATION & EFFICIENCY

When it comes to keeping your home conditioned properly, there are many key areas we focus on to maximize that efficiency. The conditioning of your home affects your daily comfort of living, affecting how you feel every day.

Key items where we use building science to differentiate ourselves:
  • Conditioned vs unconditioned attic space

  • Proper use and specification of closed cell spray foam

  • Mitigation of thermal bridging

  • Temporary temperature control throughout building process

  • Industry leading ACH goals and requirements for house tightness

  • Exterior insulation applications & options

  • Over spec R-Value installations

  • Optional airborne droplet sealing of air gaps

MECHANICALS

The final elements that tie all of these things together are the mechanicals. Through these systems we move the air, keep it clean and regulate moisture to add the final piece to the puzzle in an efficient structure.

Key items where we use building science to differentiate ourselves:
  • Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs)

  • Clean air intakes

  • Ionization / sterilization systems

  • Humidity control and regulation

  • Multi-Zone control systems

  • Smaller spec systems based on advanced building methods
